Section 1: Understanding GPI Guarantees™

1. What is a GPI Guarantee™?

A GPI Guarantee™ is designed to provide additional protection for eligible building work, property improvements and specialist remedial treatments.

It offers an additional layer of protection beyond the contractor's own guarantee, subject to the terms and conditions of the individual policy.

Depending on the guarantee selected, protection may cover specified defects or the recurrence of particular problems, such as rising damp, timber infestation, wall-tie failure or structural waterproofing defects.

The purpose is to give property owners greater reassurance that they have a route to seek appropriate remedial work if a covered problem develops.

2. Why should I consider a GPI Guarantee™?

Building work can involve considerable expense. If a defect develops after completion, the cost of investigating and correcting it can be significant.

A contractor's own guarantee may provide protection, but what happens if the contractor retires, closes the business or becomes unable to fulfil its obligations?

An eligible GPI Guarantee™ can provide an additional layer of protection in accordance with its terms and conditions.

Benefits may include:

Long-term protection for specified building or remedial work.

Additional reassurance if the original contractor ceases trading.

Access to an approved network of specialist remedial contractors.

Independent surveyor involvement where required.

Coverage for specified remedial work, subject to the policy.

Potential protection following a change of property ownership, subject to any assignment requirements.

The exact benefits depend on the guarantee issued.

3. How is a GPI Guarantee™ different from a contractor's guarantee?

A contractor's guarantee is generally a commitment by the contractor to address certain defects in their work.

A GPI Guarantee™ is designed to provide additional protection in accordance with its own terms and conditions.

For eligible indemnity guarantees, the protection is intended to address specified circumstances in which the original contractor has ceased trading and cannot fulfil their guarantee obligations.

A standalone guarantee may operate differently.

It is important to check whether your particular guarantee requires the contractor to have ceased trading before a claim can be considered.

4. Are GPI Guarantees™ indemnity-backed?

Our guarantees are secured by London Underwriters.

5. Are GPI Guarantees™ available throughout the UK?

Yes. GPI advertises guarantee services across the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland.

Availability remains subject to the type of work, the property's circumstances, the guarantee requested and the applicable eligibility requirements.

6. How long does a GPI Guarantee™ last?

Guarantee terms of 10, 20 and 30 years, depending on the type of work and the guarantee issued.

The appropriate term will depend on the product and the work being protected.

Underground developments may have a shorter specified term, and the website identifies a 10-year term for these developments.

7. Does a GPI Guarantee™ cover everything that could go wrong with my property?

No. A guarantee is not a general home policy and should not be treated as unrestricted protection against every property defect.

Cover is limited to the work, risks, defects and remedial costs specified in the applicable documentation.

For example, a guarantee relating to timber treatment will not automatically cover unrelated roofing, plumbing or structural problems.

Section 2: Types of Building Work Covered

8. What types of building work can be protected by GPI Guarantees™?

GPI offers guarantees for a range of domestic and commercial building projects.

Examples include:

Damp-proofing treatments.

Rising damp protection.

Timber treatments and woodworm treatment.

Dry rot treatment.

Wall ties and lateral restraint.

External wall installations.

Structural repairs.

Subsidence remediation.

Underpinning and piling.

Structural waterproofing.

Basement conversions and waterproofing.

Roofing systems.

Double glazing.

Extensions and loft conversions.

Garage conversions.

General building and renovation works.

Certain new-build projects.

Not every type of work will qualify automatically. The proposed works must be assessed against the relevant guarantee requirements.

9. Can I obtain a guarantee for damp-proofing work?

Yes. GPI offers guarantees for eligible damp-proofing treatments.

The guarantee may provide protection against specified problems, including the recurrence of rising damp in walls treated under the relevant system.

The precise protection depends on the work undertaken and the guarantee documentation.

Customers should retain their original quotation, treatment specification, invoice, completion records and guarantee certificate.

10. Can I obtain a guarantee for rising damp?

Yes. GPI provides a standalone rising damp protection policy for homeowners.

The published option is a 20-year policy, with the advertised price depending on the property type.

The property must meet the eligibility requirements, including the requirement that pre-existing rising damp is not present for the advertised standalone policy.

If you are experiencing dampness now, contact GPI before applying to establish whether the property qualifies.

11. Does GPI provide timber treatment guarantees?

Yes. GPI lists timber treatment among its guarantee services.

Depending on the policy, eligible protection may relate to the recurrence of infestation or re-infestation in timber that has been treated under the specified works.

The guarantee applies to the timber and work identified in the relevant documentation. It should not be assumed to cover untreated areas or unrelated timber defects.

12. Can I obtain a guarantee for woodworm or dry rot treatment?

GPI lists timber treatments and dry rot among the types of work for which guarantees may be available.

Eligibility depends on the treatment undertaken, the specification, the existing condition of the property and the guarantee terms.

Before applying, provide details of the affected areas, the proposed or completed treatment and the contractor responsible for the work.

13. Are structural repairs covered?

GPI offers guarantees for certain structural repairs, including eligible underpinning, wall-tie and lateral-restraint works.

The exact scope of cover depends on the particular repair and the certificate issued.

A guarantee for one structural repair should not be assumed to cover unrelated movement, new structural alterations or defects outside the specified work.

14. Can I obtain a guarantee for a basement conversion or waterproofing project?

Yes. GPI lists basement conversions and structural waterproofing among its services.

For an appropriate guarantee, you may need to provide drawings, specifications, invoices and details of the waterproofing system installed.

The policy will specify which works and defects are covered, the duration of protection and the maximum claim limit.

Underground developments may have a shorter guarantee term than other building projects.

15. Can extensions, loft conversions and renovations be covered?

Potentially, yes. GPI lists extensions, loft conversions, garage conversions and general renovation works among the projects it may be able to protect.

Eligibility depends on the nature of the project and the specific guarantee requested.

You should provide a clear description of the works and supporting documentation so that GPI can determine the appropriate product.

16. Can I obtain a guarantee for roofing or double glazing?

GPI lists roofing systems and double glazing among the categories of work for which guarantees may be available.

The guarantee must specifically identify the work being protected.

Do not assume that a guarantee covers every component, installation defect, manufacturing issue or subsequent alteration associated with the property.

17. Can commercial building projects be covered?

Yes. GPI states that it offers guarantees for both domestic and commercial projects.

The suitability of a guarantee depends on the nature, value and risk of the work, as well as the required protection period.

Contact GPI with the project details to obtain a quotation and confirm eligibility.

Section 3: Eligibility and Applications

18. Who can apply for a GPI Guarantee™?

GPI welcomes enquiries from a range of applicants, including:

Homeowners.

Sole traders.

Limited companies.

Building contractors.

Commercial property owners.

Other eligible parties seeking protection for building work.

Applications are subject to eligibility checks and the requirements of the relevant guarantee.

19. Can I apply if I am a homeowner rather than a contractor?

Yes. Homeowners can apply for an eligible standalone guarantee or seek protection for qualifying building work.

You do not necessarily need to be a member of GPI's contractor subscription scheme.

The correct application route depends on whether you want to protect completed work, obtain standalone rising damp protection or apply for another type of guarantee.

20. Can I apply for a guarantee after the building work has been completed?

You can enquire about a guarantee for completed work.

GPI will need information about the work undertaken, its cost and the existing condition of the property.

Eligibility is not automatic. Existing faults or damage may prevent an application from qualifying.

Contact GPI before assuming that previously completed work can be covered.

21. Can I apply if there is already damp or structural damage?

GPI applications require the absence of pre-existing faults or damage.

For example, its advertised standalone rising damp policy requires that pre-existing rising damp is not present.

If a defect already exists, you should disclose it when making an enquiry.

A guarantee should not be assumed to cover a problem that existed before the relevant cover began.

22. Are there any eligibility checks?

Yes. GPI states that applications are subject to eligibility checks, including checks relating to County Court Judgments (CCJs) and adverse reputational information.

The requirements may depend on the applicant, contractor and product.

If you are concerned about your eligibility, contact GPI before proceeding with your application.

23. What documents do I need to apply?

The documents required will depend on the work and the guarantee being requested.

GPI identifies the following as relevant supporting information:

Drawings of the renovation or development, where applicable.

An invoice showing the cost of the work.

The original quotation.

A specification describing the work undertaken.

Details of the property and the applicant.

Information about the contractor.

Details of the existing condition of the property.

Other documents requested during the assessment.

Providing complete and accurate information can help GPI assess the application and determine the appropriate guarantee.

24. How do I apply for a GPI Guarantee™?

The process generally involves the following steps.

Step 1: Identify the protection you need.

Determine whether you require a guarantee for damp-proofing, timber treatment, structural repairs, waterproofing, renovation work or another eligible project.

Step 2: Complete the application.

Use the relevant application route on the GPI website.

Step 3: Provide the supporting documents.

Submit the quotation, invoice, specification, drawings and other requested information.

Step 4: Obtain a quotation.

GPI will assess the details provided and advise on the appropriate guarantee and applicable fees.

Step 5: Review the terms.

Check the duration, scope of cover, claim limits, exclusions and any other conditions before proceeding.

Step 6: Complete the payment process.

Pay the agreed fee in accordance with the instructions provided.

Step 7: Receive your guarantee documentation.

Once the application has been approved and the necessary payment and requirements have been satisfied, the guarantee can be issued in accordance with GPI's stated processing arrangements.

25. How long does it take to receive my guarantee?

GPI's states that online applications are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It also indicates that guarantees may be issued on the same day or the following working day once approved. Its published terms and fees page states that guarantees are issued within 48 hours of receipt of funds.

These timeframes are subject to approval, receipt of the required information and payment.

If your project has a deadline, contact GPI in advance to confirm the expected issue date.

26. Can I obtain a quotation before applying?

Yes. GPI advertises free quotations and welcomes initial enquiries.

A quotation allows you to understand the likely cost and available guarantee options before deciding whether to proceed.

The final price and eligibility will depend on the details of the work and the guarantee requested.

27. Is there an application fee?

GPI states that it does not charge an application fee for an initial enquiry or quotation.

However, guarantee premiums and other applicable fees still apply.

Make sure you distinguish between a free enquiry and the cost of purchasing an actual guarantee.

28. What happens if my application is declined?

If your application does not meet the relevant eligibility requirements, contact GPI to establish the reason and whether any alternative guarantee may be available.

Do not assume that another product will cover the same work or risks. Any alternative must be assessed and confirmed separately.

Section 4: Guarantee Costs and Fees

29. How much does a GPI Guarantee™ cost?

The cost depends on several factors, including:

The type of work.

The contract value.

The risk associated with the project.

The duration of protection.

The guarantee product selected.

Whether the applicant qualifies for contractor subscription rates.

GPI's published information states that some guarantees cost between 3% and 5% of the contract value, plus VAT.

The minimum published cost for a standard guarantee is £100 plus VAT.

These figures are indicative of the published pricing structure, not a universal price for every project.

30. What are the fees for a standalone guarantee for building work?

GPI publishes the following fee schedule for certain standalone guarantees that protect a contractor's guarantee.

Contract value

Published fee, excluding VAT

Up to £2,000

£100

Up to £3,000

£150

Up to £4,000

£200

Up to £5,000

£250

Up to £6,000

£300

For other projects, the published premium is generally between 3% and 5% of the contract value, plus VAT, depending on risk.

Important: This schedule should be confirmed with GPI before purchase to establish which products and contract values it applies to.

31. How much does standalone rising damp protection cost?

GPI publishes the following prices for its 20-year standalone rising damp policy.

Property type

Price excluding VAT

Terraced property

£250

Semi-detached property

£300

Detached property

£450

VAT is additional.

These prices relate to the advertised standalone rising damp product and are subject to eligibility requirements. They should not be confused with the cost of a guarantee for damp-proofing work undertaken by a contractor.

32. How much does a contractor subscription cost?

GPI publishes the following subscription pricing for eligible contractors:

Item

Published fee excluding VAT

Annual subscription

£100

Each eligible guarantee

£60

The published preferential rate applies to qualifying guarantees within the scheme's limits and conditions.

GPI states that the standard subscriber guarantee limit is £50,000 per guarantee, with additional fees required above that amount.

Contractors must also apply for at least one GPI Guarantee™ per month to remain a member.

Confirm the current subscription terms directly with GPI before joining.

33. Is VAT included in the advertised prices?

The prices published on GPI's website are generally stated excluding VAT, with VAT payable in addition where indicated.

Always check the quotation or invoice to establish the total amount payable.

34. Is there a renewal fee?

The published subscription scheme includes an annual membership fee.

Individual guarantees are issued for a specified term, generally involving a one-off premium rather than an automatically recurring annual payment.

The exact payment arrangements depend on the product and its documentation.

If you are unsure whether any additional payment will be required, ask GPI before purchasing the guarantee.

35. Can I obtain a discount on my guarantee?

GPI advertises preferential rates for eligible contractor subscribers.

The subscription scheme may be beneficial for businesses that regularly issue guarantees for qualifying work.

Any other discount or price comparison should be confirmed with GPI and reflected in the written quotation.

Section 5: Contractor Subscriptions

36. What is the GPI contractor subscription scheme?

The subscription scheme is designed for eligible contractors and limited companies that regularly require guarantees for their building projects.

Subscribers can apply for qualifying guarantees at the published preferential rate, subject to the scheme's limits and membership conditions.

This can help contractors incorporate guarantee protection into their customer quotations and provide additional reassurance to property owners.

37. Who can become a GPI subscriber?

Eligible building contractors, sole traders and limited companies can enquire about joining the scheme.

GPI will assess the application against its eligibility requirements.

Applicants should provide accurate business details and any information requested during the application process.

38. How much does contractor membership cost?

GPI publishes an annual subscription fee of £100 plus VAT.

Eligible guarantees are advertised at £60 plus VAT each, subject to the scheme's conditions and limits.

Contact GPI to confirm the current fees and the specific types of guarantees available to subscribers.

39. Is there a limit on the value of work covered by the subscriber rate?

Yes. GPI states that the standard subscriber guarantee limit is £50,000 per guarantee.

Projects exceeding this amount may require an additional fee or a different quotation.

The applicable limit and any additional charges should be confirmed before the guarantee is issued.

40. Is there a minimum number of guarantees a subscriber must apply for?

GPI states that subscribers must apply for at least one GPI Guarantee™ per month to remain members.

Contractors should consider this requirement when deciding whether the scheme is suitable for their business.

Ask GPI to confirm how the requirement is applied and what happens if a business has a quieter month.

41. Can a contractor use GPI Guarantees™ to reassure customers?

Yes. An eligible guarantee can provide customers with additional reassurance that specified building work has a documented form of protection.

Contractors should explain the guarantee accurately and ensure that customers understand its duration, scope and limitations.

A guarantee should never be described as covering risks that are not included in the issued documentation.

42. Does the guarantee protect a customer if the contractor ceases trading?

Eligible GPI indemnity guarantees are designed to provide protection in specified circumstances where the contractor has ceased trading and is unable to fulfil its obligations.

The precise conditions depend on the product.

For example, the published terms for certain damp-proofing, timber treatment, wall-tie and structural waterproofing guarantees state that claims under the indemnity are generally conditional on the contractor having ceased trading, unless a standalone guarantee applies.

Customers should check the conditions of their particular guarantee.

43. Can a contractor apply for guarantees for multiple projects?

Eligible subscribers can apply for multiple guarantees, subject to the subscription conditions, project eligibility and applicable limits.

Each guarantee must relate to the specified work and be supported by the required information.

Contractors should ensure that each application accurately reflects the contract value, scope and details of the project.

Section 6: Making a Claim

44. What should I do if a problem develops after the work is completed?

If you discover a problem that may fall within your guarantee, review your guarantee certificate and contact the appropriate party as soon as possible.

You should:

Identify the guarantee covering the work.

Record the problem and when it first appeared.

Take photographs where appropriate.

Gather the original invoice, specification and guarantee documentation.

Contact the original contractor if the guarantee requires you to do so.

Submit a claim to GPI using its published claims process when the relevant conditions are satisfied.

Avoid arranging major remedial work before obtaining the required approval, unless urgent action is necessary to protect people or prevent further damage.

The policy may exclude remedial work that has not been agreed in advance.

45. How do I make a claim under my GPI Guarantee™?

GPI provides a dedicated claim submission route on its website.

Before submitting your claim, gather the guarantee certificate, details of the property, a description of the defect and supporting evidence.

You may also be asked for invoices, photographs, inspection reports or other documents.

The claim will be considered against the applicable terms and conditions. GPI may require a survey or technical assessment before deciding on the appropriate next steps.

Submit your claim through the official GPI website: use the Make a Guarantee Claim option.

46. Can I make a claim if my original contractor is still trading?

This depends on the type of guarantee you have purchased.

Under the published terms for certain contractor indemnity guarantees, the customer must first approach the original contractor while that contractor remains in business.

Those indemnity guarantees generally become claimable when the contractor has ceased trading and is unable to fulfil the original guarantee.

A standalone guarantee may operate differently.

Check your certificate and contact GPI if you are uncertain which claims procedure applies.

47. What if my contractor has gone out of business?

If your contractor has ceased trading and is unable to honour its guarantee, you may be able to submit a claim under an eligible GPI Guarantee™.

The claim must meet the conditions of the policy, including the requirements relating to the work covered and the circumstances of the contractor's cessation.

You may be asked to provide evidence that the contractor is no longer trading.

GPI will assess the claim and explain the next steps in accordance with the guarantee.

48. What happens after I submit a claim?

The process depends on the nature of the defect and the applicable guarantee.

It may involve:

Reviewing your guarantee documentation.

Checking the details of the original work.

Assessing whether the reported problem falls within the cover.

Arranging an independent survey or technical inspection where required.

Determining the appropriate remedial work or other settlement, if the claim is accepted.

Arranging approved remedial contractors where applicable.

The outcome depends on the policy conditions, available evidence and the findings of the assessment.

49. Will GPI arrange the repairs if my claim is accepted?

GPI states that accepted claims may be handled through its approved network of specialist remedial contractors.

Where the guarantee provides for remedial work, the appropriate repairs or treatment will be arranged in accordance with the policy.

The specific work undertaken will depend on the defect, the scope of cover and the approved remedy.

Do not assume that every claim will result in an identical repair or settlement.

50. Will I have to pay anything when making a claim?

GPI's published terms state that a claim survey fee is payable for certain guarantees.

The applicable fee is specified in the relevant guarantee documentation.

The same terms state that the survey fee will be returned in full if the claim is valid.

Check your policy before submitting a claim so that you understand any upfront costs and the circumstances in which they may be refunded.

51. Is there a maximum amount that GPI will pay?

Yes. Guarantees have specified claim limits.

GPI advertises guarantee cover ranging from £1,000 to £500,000, depending on the product and eligibility.

However, its published terms for certain damp-proofing, timber treatment, wall-tie, lateral-restraint and structural waterproofing indemnities state that the maximum payable is the original contract price shown in the guarantee schedule.

The figure advertised on the website should therefore not be interpreted as the maximum available under every individual policy.

Always check the limit stated in your certificate and schedule.

52. Are consequential losses covered?

Not necessarily.

GPI's published terms for certain indemnity guarantees exclude various losses that are not directly related to the specified remedial work, unless the policy expressly states otherwise.

Examples given include damage to furniture or equipment, loss of profits, business or goodwill, and certain redecoration or replacement costs.

If you want to understand whether a particular expense is covered, refer to your policy wording or contact GPI before incurring the cost.

53. What happens if I arrange repairs without GPI's approval?

The published terms for certain guarantees state that remedial work undertaken without the required agreement will not be covered.

For this reason, you should contact GPI and follow its claims procedure before arranging non-urgent repairs.

If immediate action is necessary to address a safety issue or prevent further damage, take appropriate steps to protect people and property and notify GPI as soon as possible.

Keep records of the circumstances and any necessary expenditure.

54. How long does a claim take to resolve?

The time required depends on the nature and complexity of the problem, the availability of supporting information, the need for inspections and the remedial work required.

GPI states on its website that it aims to resolve claims within 14 days.

This is an advertised aim, not a guarantee that every claim will be settled within that period.

Contact GPI for an update if your claim is taking longer than expected.

55. Can my claim be rejected?

Yes. A claim may not qualify if the reported problem falls outside the cover or fails to meet the relevant conditions.

Potential issues include:

The defect is unrelated to the work covered.

The claim falls outside the guarantee period.

The relevant contractor has not ceased trading where this is required.

The affected area was not included in the original work.

The policy excludes the cause of the defect.

Required claim procedures have not been followed.

The remedial work was undertaken without the necessary approval.

These are examples of matters that may affect eligibility; the actual decision will depend on your policy and circumstances.

If a claim is declined, ask for the reasons and the relevant policy provisions in writing.

Section 7: Property Sales and Changes of Ownership

56. Does a GPI Guarantee™ remain valid if I sell my property?

GPI states that its guarantees can remain in place following a transfer of property ownership, subject to the relevant requirements.

However, the published terms for certain indemnity guarantees state that the policy must be formally assigned to the new owner and that an assignment fee may apply.

The stated fee is 5% of the original contract value or the claim limit on the certificate, as specified in those terms.

You should therefore not assume that a guarantee automatically transfers without paperwork or cost.

Contact GPI before completing the sale to establish the applicable procedure.

57. Can a GPI Guarantee™ help when selling my house?

A valid guarantee may provide useful supporting documentation for prospective buyers who want reassurance about previous building or remedial work.

It can help demonstrate that specified work has a documented period of protection.

However, it does not guarantee that a buyer will accept the work, that a mortgage lender will approve a transaction or that every defect is covered.

Provide the buyer with the guarantee documentation and confirm any transfer requirements with GPI.

58. Will a GPI Guarantee™ automatically transfer to a new owner?

Not necessarily.

Transfer arrangements depend on the guarantee issued. Certain published terms require formal assignment and provide for a fee.

Before selling or transferring a property, ask GPI what documentation is needed and whether any charges apply.

59. Will my mortgage lender accept a GPI Guarantee™?

GPI states that its guarantees are accepted by UK lenders.

However, individual lenders assess the documentation and requirements relevant to their lending decisions.

If you are purchasing, remortgaging or selling a property, check with your lender or solicitor that the particular guarantee meets their requirements.

Do not rely on a general statement of acceptance as a substitute for confirmation from your own lender.

Section 8: Standalone Guarantees

60. What is a standalone GPI Guarantee™?

A standalone guarantee is a one-off guarantee that can be applied for separately from the contractor subscription scheme.

GPI offers standalone options for eligible customers, including homeowners seeking rising damp protection.

The exact protection depends on the standalone product selected.

61. Can I purchase a guarantee without joining the contractor subscription scheme?

Yes. Homeowners and other eligible applicants can enquire about standalone guarantees without becoming contractor subscribers.

The fee will depend on the product, the contract value where relevant, and the eligibility requirements.

62. Can I purchase standalone rising damp protection if no damp-proofing work is being undertaken now?

GPI advertises a 20-year standalone rising damp policy for eligible homeowners.

The published eligibility conditions require that pre-existing rising damp is not present.

Contact GPI to establish whether your property qualifies and what documentation may be required.

63. Does a standalone guarantee have the same conditions as a contractor-backed indemnity guarantee?

Not necessarily.

A standalone guarantee may have different conditions from an indemnity guarantee designed to back up a contractor's own guarantee.

For example, the published terms for certain contractor indemnity products make claims conditional on the contractor having ceased trading, unless a standalone guarantee applies.

The actual terms of your product determine the protection available.

Always read the individual guarantee documentation before purchase.

Section 9: Independent Assessments and Remedial Work

64. Will an independent surveyor assess my claim?

GPI states that its claims process involves independent surveyor assessment where applicable.

Its website also refers to surveyors who are members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

The need for a survey and the appointment arrangements depend on the nature of the claim and the applicable process.

65. Does GPI have access to specialist repair contractors?

Yes. GPI states that it has a network of approved remedial and structural repair contractors serving the UK, including Northern Ireland.

Where a valid claim provides for remedial work, GPI may arrange the appropriate specialist contractor in accordance with the guarantee.

The type of contractor required will depend on the defect and the work needed.

66. Will GPI cover labour and materials?

Coverage depends on the guarantee issued and the remedial work required.

GPI describes its guarantees as providing protection for specified materials, labour and relevant making-good work, subject to the policy.

However, its published terms also identify exclusions and restrictions relating to particular costs.

Check the wording of your guarantee to establish exactly what is included.

67. Will GPI pay for redecoration after repairs?

Not automatically.

Some guarantees may include specified making-good work, but the published terms for certain indemnity products exclude particular redecoration, repainting, retiling and related costs unless expressly covered.

Before work starts, establish which reinstatement costs are included in your guarantee.

68. Can I choose my own contractor to carry out remedial work?

You should not assume that you can appoint your own contractor and claim the cost afterwards.

GPI's published terms state that remedial work undertaken without the necessary agreement may not be covered.

Contact GPI before appointing a contractor so that any required approval can be obtained.

Section 10: Additional Questions

69. Can I obtain a guarantee for work undertaken by a different contractor?

You can enquire about a guarantee for eligible completed work, even if you are not applying through a contractor subscription.

However, GPI must assess the work and confirm that it qualifies.

The existence of an invoice or an original contractor's guarantee does not automatically mean that additional cover can be issued.

70. Can I obtain a guarantee if I do not have all my original paperwork?

Supporting documentation helps establish what work was carried out and what protection is required.

If you are missing an invoice, specification or other document, contact GPI to discuss what alternative evidence may be acceptable.

Do not assume that an application can be approved without the required information.

71. Can I apply for a guarantee for a new-build property?

GPI states that it can provide guarantees for certain new-build projects.

The appropriate product will depend on the type of property, the works involved and the protection required.

Contact GPI with the project details before proceeding.

72. Can I apply for a guarantee if the original contractor has already retired?

Potentially, but eligibility depends on the product and the circumstances.

GPI's guarantee proposition includes protection for certain situations in which the original guarantor ceases trading or retires.

You should provide details of the contractor, the original work and any existing guarantee so that GPI can establish whether an application or claim is appropriate.

73. Is GPI a not-for-profit organisation?

GPI describes itself as a not-for-profit organisation on its website.

For further information about the company's legal entities and arrangements, consult its published company details and terms.

74. How can I contact GPI Guarantees™?
